Hey Everyone,
I spent my Halloween on a trail in the woods. I would have to say that since my days have ended of filling pillow cases with absurd amounts of candy, this may have been my favorite Halloween yet. I took Ally (I call her Cricket), a friend of mine, up to Hanging rock. She had never been there and, as most of you know, its my local haunt. So I told her I would show her around. The weather was beautiful for hiking. It was nice and cool and the sky was wide open. With the cooler air there was no humidity to haze the air so you could see for miles in all directions from the top. I have been hiking pretty much solo for quite some time now so it was very nice to have someone to chat and laugh with as well.

With fall in the air and the leaves changing over its probably the prettiest time of year for a hike. The seasons are getting cooler so its important to note that if you are headed into the back country you need to start packing in the warming layers. A nice light fleece pullover or, as Cricket had, a special pair of sleeves to cover your arms if you get a chill. Also don't forget to drink plenty of water. You may think that because its cooler now you wont have to consume as much. However, the air is dryer now so you will actually dehydrate faster just from breathing.

Its a great time to get out there and enjoy the outdoors before old man winter takes over. I hope you all get a chance to get out and enjoy the outdoors this fall no matter what your hobby of choice is. Maybe you can take a friend.

See you on the trail,
Lance
Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit! I almost forgot how much I enjoy hiking. I had a great time Hiking with you Lance....I most defiantly see a repeat adventure some time soon!
